An Enhanced Evaluation of MIH Breastfeeding Activities Initiative

The “Improving Health Equity and Maternal and Infant Health Outcomes” (MIH) project, funded by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), is composed of 21 community-based organizations across New York City working collaboratively to improve maternal and infant health outcomes.

The MIH program staff’s target audience includes people of all genders of childbearing age who reside in neighborhoods with the most significant social, economic, and health challenges and have a disproportionate burden of poor maternal and infant health outcomes compared to other NYC neighborhoods. Each of the 21 community-based organizations is involved in grassroots work aimed to improve maternal and infant health outcomes by directing intensive efforts to neighborhoods with the greatest health inequities in the following five topic areas:

  1. Safe Sleep

  2. Breastfeeding

  3. Family Planning

  4. Women’s Health

  5. Toxic Stress and Trauma
