New York Blood Center has Declared a Blood Emergency
According to the New York Blood Center, blood donations began to decline about six weeks ago, and they have seen 6000 fewer blood donations earlier in 2022. This is a disturbing trend after the chronic blood crisis during the pandemic and ran counter to their hope that our communities were returning to normal. They saw some promising signs with returning school blood drives and many organizations scheduling blood drives for the first time in two years. And yet, their donor centers have seen a decrease of 30%, and while there are more convenient blood drives happening, blood donors are just not turning out.
