Title: Coordinator of Health Education and Outreach
Definition: The Coordinator of Health Education and Outreach is responsible for assisting in the effective development, implementation and monitoring of core programs and services delivered by The Bronx Health Link (TBHL) under the Comprehensive Prenatal Perinatal Services Network contract with the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Women’s Health. The Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Assistant Director and in collaboration with agency staff and a diverse group of community stakeholders.
Education: Bachelors Degree in community health education, social services or a related field.
Experience:
- 3 or more years of steady related work experience, other than internships
- Expertise in workshop facilitation and curriculum development
- Knowledge of Bronx communities and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse sectors of the community
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs and strong Internet research skills
- Strong oral and written skills
- Graphic design skills and web-site development programs a plus
- Experience in maternal, infant and child health preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:
- Under the direction of the Assistant Director, research, develop and implement curriculums for health education workshops targeting consumers and providers
- Assist in developing, updating and distributing educational outreach materials focusing on health themes identified in TBHL’s Bronx Needs Assessment and/or by the project staff, coalition members and consumer advisory group members.
- Identify community outreach opportunities for project staff and coalition members for the purpose of providing community awareness and education on improving birth outcomes and decreasing infant and maternal mortality and morbidity in the Bronx
- Develop professional relationships with key community stakeholders by representing the agency at community events/meetings, health fairs and outreach activities addressing perinatal health issues
- Complete and submit bi-weekly evaluations, activity reports, tracking tools, supporting documents and other program reports
- Will assist the Assistant director in the development of evaluation and tracking tools for program activities
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining the Health Education Mini-Resource Centers
- Will under the direction of the Assistant Director coordinate annual events including; The Bronx Wide Baby Shower, Community Health Education Day, and the Annual Network Forum
- Advisory Group including on-going membership recruitment
- Participate in local and/or regional professional trainings and conferences
- Perform well within a flexible schedule that will include some evening and weekend hours
- Other program related duties as needed.
Additional Qualifications: The candidate must be professional, very well organized, attentive to details, and possess excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills. In addition, s/he must be able to establish priorities, be a team player, and confident in making independent decisions. Maturity, sound judgment, a willingness to learn and a tranquil personality are highly desired.
